Set within the historic Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, the site for this apartment building has a rich context of ornate industrial structures. Continuing the tradition of masonry detailing, large windows, and a regimented grid-like structure, the design takes on a contemporary interpretation of these contextual elements to provide a new housing typology for the area. Ground floor office and retail spaces activate the streetscape, providing new amenities for the building's users, and community members alike. Moving up through the building the masonry grid begins to offset and shift, invoking movement to create a unique patterning of solid and void on the facade.
