Schoolhaus, recently featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, is one of our most unique projects to date. This former 1860s schoolhouse in Newtown, PA, had seen several transformations before it was purchased by a family with a vision to expand and unify the home’s design. The objective was to create a design that respects and restores the historical elements of the home while seamlessly blending its modern counterparts.

When designing large mixed use developments, we are always trying to find the perfect balance of unique innovative elements and classic contextual architecture. Finding this balance creates structures that are cohesive with their surroundings but still add subtle visual interest to the architecture of the neighborhood. In this design, we took a classic grid style window layout and manipulated the brick design to create movement across the facade while being mindful of the height and materiality of the surrounding structures to find that perfect blend.
