Addison Residences

Set along one of Center City’s narrowest and most intimate blocks, the Addison Walk Townhomes are designed as a contemporary interpretation of Philadelphia’s historic brick fabric. The pair of homes occupies a tightly scaled street, requiring an approach that is both contextually sensitive and architecturally confident. Brick, proportion, and rhythm serve as the project’s primary design tools, allowing the new construction to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding nineteenth century streetscape while asserting a distinct modern identity.

At the ground level, finely detailed brick arches frame the entry sequence and soften the relationship between public and private space. The upper floors build on this language with carefully composed window groupings and subtle brick detailing that bring depth to the façade. A third floor addition, clad in dark metal and shaped as a series of contemporary dormers, is set back strategically to reduce the apparent height of the building. This move preserves the street’s scale while introducing generous natural light into the interior.

Throughout, the project prioritizes craftsmanship and urban compatibility. Every elevation, material junction, and silhouette has been considered in relation to the immediate context — a dense pedestrian passage defined by greenery, stoops, and long standing brick rowhomes. The result is a pair of residences that feel rooted in place yet unmistakably modern, contributing to the ongoing evolution of one of Philadelphia’s most established neighborhoods.
