The Refinery

A masonry grid sets the framework for this boutique eleven unit condo building in the North Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia. Due to a unique zoning classification, the developer relied heavily on the design team’s expertise to keep the project by-right in order to meet the required deadline. Drawing from the industrial history of the neighborhood, loft units were designed to maximize the height of the building, creating double height living spaces patterned with light and shadow created by the facade’s grid. Warm wood accents infill the grid to create a playful language between the shifting windows.
